Generating Space Legends

The (Place Space Legend) tool is used to generate a space legend that represents each space in the active design file; and in any attached reference file. Since rendering space shapes is limited to the plan drawing, this tool is inactive unless the active DGN contains a plan drawing.

Space shapes should be generated on a horizontal plane, at a height on the Z axis that is lower than the floor level in the plan drawing. This prevents other graphics (such as door swings, door and window annotations, dimensions and notes) from being masked, or covered up, by the rendered shape. The recommended Space Shape Offset for Rendering setting helps you control this situation. The setting is available in the Preferences dialog, Building Architectural Category, is used when generating legend in space rendering:

This setting defines the Z axis height value for the horizontal plane upon which the space shapes are placed. The Z axis height value should be set so that other drawing components are not covered by the space shapes during the drawing production process.

The default setting for this preference is:
  • Imperial projects - 1 inch (0:1)
  • Metric projects - 30 mm.
